INTRODUCTION
In essence, there is only one certainty in life, and this is that everything changes. Change comes through courage, creativity, confidence, determination, and a lot of patience. Real (social) change starts within yourself and requires attention inwards, reflection. Am I doing the right thing, does it feel good, and does it suit me? But as soon as you have walked through this process, how will you create this change? How will you convert your dream into practice?
Social entrepreneurs and civil society organisations put at the heart of their strategic choices what their social task is and what their own ambition and ability is to contribute to it. Their value is the impact they have socially. That impact is their reason to exist, their motivation and the perspective of their stakeholders and financiers.
Very different from commercial companies, there is often no direct connection between how much activities cost and what it yields socially. After all, there is no direct connection between customer demand and revenue. And if there is one – as in the social rental sector – the amount of that ‘turnover’ and its growth is subject to strict legal rules. As a social entrepreneur, how do you ensure change, and ultimately impact, that does justice to this situation?
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Open for change: Openness to change refers to an individual’s level of acceptance and conscious awareness of the possibility that change may be needed across a range of situations and scenarios, together with the appetite or drive to enact that change.
Innovative: Innovation has a positive impact on (organisation) culture as it increases the ability to acquire, create and make the best use of competencies, skills and knowledge. Innovation practices can help build a culture of continuous learning, growth and personal development.
